Safeguarding and child protection policy for childminders
The EYFS requires a written safeguarding policy and procedure.
The EYFS asks for this one in writing.
What your policy needs to answer
These are the questions Tea Tin asks you when you write this one. They are the things an inspector is likely to ask about, and they are the parts only you can answer, because they are about your home and the way you work.
- Who is your designated safeguarding lead (usually you)?
- What are your local safeguarding partnership referral routes and thresholds?
- What do you do if an allegation is made against you or someone in your household?
- How do you record and store concerns, and who can see them?
How often to look at it again
Review this one once a year, and whenever something changes that it describes: a new room, a new pet, a change in the guidance behind it. A policy with a review date on it tells an inspector you have read your own policy since you wrote it.
Other safeguarding policies
This page is a guide to what the policy covers. It is not legal advice, and it is not model policy text to copy. Tea Tin prompts you to write your own.

Tea Tin is being built now, and tested by childminders. Leave your email and we will tell you when it opens.
The first 50 childminders get a year free.In return, we ask for your honest feedback as you use it — what is confusing, what is missing, what would save you time — so we can make Tea Tin as easy and as useful as it can be. The fifty places close on the day Tea Tin opens, whether or not all fifty have gone.
